  • Great app but could use some improvement

Really great subject matter, and when you click on words it shows the pinyin and word translation. Would love to be able to have full sentence translation (unless that exists and the capability just isn’t easy to find) and the audio never works on my app so I can’t practice listening.
  • Great for Chinese Learners

I love the fact that these articles have HSK levels associated with them so you know beforehand what level difficulty you’re going to read. The ability to look up the words, listen to their pronunciation and add them to vocabulary decks is also pretty cool. I haven’t used the feature yet, but you can export vocabulary cards to Pleco. I may sign up for the premium features to support the authors, because the app is great and I’d like to get access to the archived articles. Great app!
  • Articles from Feb 2018?

I love this app and reads it almost everyday. Noticed that there has been no new articles since 1-Feb-2018. Any reason why?
  • No sound?

Just downloaded, asked to login to use sound feature, done so, still no sound. What's going on? Tried on two different iPhones, still no sound. Wonder why others said 'good audio'.

There’s a lot of Chinese pop-ups to help aid in reading and understanding the Chinese words but this has audio that’s not like the usual automated robotic speak—it sounds natural and accurate. NOTE: another reviewer felt this aspect of the app was sub-par (paraphrasing), but if you’ve listened to other text-to-speech apps for Chinese, Decipher’s sounds more natural. I’m not a paying customer yet cuz I have a lot of things going on now so I don’t have that much time to spend with this app but like yet another reviewer said, I might pay to support the writers—just not quite yet... Update: it's nice you can get messages following the comments section for each article especially if you have questions about language usage.
  • Missing some things

The concept for this app is great but missing a few things that makes it too hard for a beginner to use which makes it not useful. - no ability to change the voice reading speed - no ability to just show the pinyin without having to tap. As a beginner, it would be easier to just show all the pinyin - no full translation of the articles. As a beginner even though we can see the individual character meaning, it is still to hard to get the meaning of the sentence. This is the deal breaker for me and makes the app much harder to use. - voice sounds very robotic

Decipher is unlike a lot of other apps out there for Chinese. You can see the HSK of different words, make flash cards for vocabulary, etc. I really recommend this to anyone who wants to improve their Chinese reading.
  • Very useful tool

Have been using this for a week. A very useful tool for those learning Hanyu, especially reading and listening. I like it that it can be self-paced and you can read the same article as many times as you like. Easy to use too.
