    Update to reduce to 1 Star, which is one too many. Have used for about 5 months now. Constantly have to sign in, does not recognize I’m a subscriber, gets stuck in a loop of “you’ve reached your 30 pg limit, sign in or subscribe to continue”. Have to clear all website history, and start over. Calls for assistance met with crickets. I deleted this worthless app and canceling my subscription. Who needs the aggravation? I like reading the print version of the newspaper online. What this app needs: should be able to view the entire page without scrolling down so you can quickly see what’s “below the fold.” It needs a way to one-click advance through the sections. It needs the ability to “jump” to a continued article and then jump back to the page you left. The app doesn’t keep me logged in, so in my morning fog I have to type in my user name and pswd. And for some reason it highlights random word combinations, believing them to be hyperlinks. Not every “xxxxx.xxx” is a url; most frequently it’s just the end of a sentence! I guess I’m spoiled by many years of using the Tampa Bay Times’ ENewspaper, an intuitive, reliable and smooth app.

    I’ve subscribed to the Sentinel on this app for 6 months and have had nothing but problems. Currently, I’ve paid for the enewspaper and digital edition but am unable to access the digital version. I’ve contacted Customer Support only to get a generic reply that has nothing to do with the problems I’ve stated. Customer Support says it’s the apps problem, Apple iTunes says it’s the Sentinel’s problem. Meanwhile I’ve paid for a paper I can’t read. Definitely not worth the aggravation.

    I finally deleted the app because it took too long to open — 60 seconds today. Plus most of the stories are about murders and assaults. I would count the number of stories before it reached the murder stories, and the most I ever got was 12. Finally, a lot of stories are 5 and 6 days old. I even paid for a digital subscription and I canceled it because this app is terrible.

    This app is not reliable. When you click on an article, nothing happens. It won’t load. Tried deleting and reinstalling too. Easier to just go to a browser and use it there.

  • Spinning Pinwheel of Death

    About three weeks ago, the app stopped working. The initial screen with the list of articles appears, but once you select an article, you get a blank screen with a spinning pinwheel of death. The article never appears. Eventually the app crashes. I’ve deleted and re-download the app numerous times. But, it did not resolve the problem. I’m using on an iPhone X. I see on the App Store that the app was updated about three weeks ago. So, I’m hoping a future update resolved the above issue. Until then, I have pinwheels to look at.

    After signing up for subscription last week, each time I try to access the Sentinel receive message used up articles. I go through the time wasting check subscription process with reply I am a subscriber. Beautiful Sentinel and Apple-amazing technology! Also a beautiful thing you must rate app before sending comments-Where are the minus 5 stars that is my rating
  • Typically Bad Tribune/Tronc

    Tribune and Tronc apps are almost universally bad, but this has to be the worst of the worst. It is full of bugs, takes forever to open and then freezes repeatedly. Almost as bad is the fact that the Sentinel is terrible at updating it. The lead story could be at the top for 36 hours, regardless of what is going on. Newer stories are sprinkled haphazardly throughout the page with no rhyme or reason. Looking for the "latest" news is useless. And big stories that are in the print edition or the digital print edition are hard to find, if they're in the app at all. I keep hoping Tronc will be taken over by another media company, just so this tragic app would be replaced.

    After updating, I realize that there is now a limit for reading anything. There used to be a little flag in the corner of the article indicating it was a premium story. I thought that was bad but stuck with it. Now there is no indication and after 20 minutes of reading I have hit my monthly limit. I could understand if there were no ads, but that is not the case. There are many places to get the news daily whether local or national that treat user better. I would definitely NOT recommend this app. I actually hope that I don't even have to rate it one star for it to count. UPDATE: I did have to rate it at least one star to review. Also, since then they have changed it from 20 stories per month to 10. UPDATE 7-11-17 They have lowered it now to 5 stories per month. Still the same amount of advertisements. All I do is delete the app and redownload and keep reading. I'm sure this is to increase the download numbers and then charge more for advertising. If they would just stop with the games this might have a better rating.
