Description

Introducing The Budget Bytes App, from cookbook author and winner of Saveur's Best How-To Food Blog in 2016, Beth Moncel. Beth has built a loyal following of millions of fans by delivering delicious recipes designed for small budgets on her blog www.budgetbytes.com. Now, she's put 500 of her most popular recipes into the Budget Bytes App, complete with step-by-step photography and voice guidance from Beth herself. She'll personally walk you through every recipe, right in your kitchen. Cooking on a budget shouldn't mean canned beans and ramen noodles night after night. Welcome to the world of delicious recipes designed for small budgets. Beth adds, “I’ve partnered with the tech-savvy team at SideChef to bring you an easy to use app packed with more features than I could have imagined. It’s like an interactive and customizable cookbook with my voice coaching you through each recipe! Cool, right?? We’ve pre-loaded the app with the 500 best recipes from years past and also loaded 300 credits into your account to jump start your access to additional new recipes in the marketplace. All new recipes from the blog will be uploaded into the marketplace where you can choose which recipes you want to load into your app. You can continue to earn free credits by simply visiting marketplace once per day, commenting on recipes, or uploading a photo of your creation. Why am I so excited about this app? Well, let me just list a few of the super cool things it can do… -Deliver the recipes you love faster and easier without waiting for a website (or annoying ads) to load. Plus, save recipes to personal “cookbooks” to access your favorites even faster. -Filter recipes by price to get recipes that are the best fit for your budget. -Adjustable serving sizes let you cook the amount that you want and reduce food waste. -Access how-to technique videos right in the instructions so you can cook with extra confidence. -Cook with me, in real time! We wanted to make this app extra personal, so you’ll have my voice giving you step-by-step instructions as you cook.”

Love the site. Love the app. The only thing I recommend is a way to cancel the "start cooking" mode so you don't have to force close the app each time. Most of the premium recipes cost 10 credits. They give you a bunch when you purchase the app. You also get 10 credits for uploading a photo of each recipe you make.... So you really can use the app and not pay more. P.S. Feature Request... Would be nice to have a place to store your upcoming weekly "to cook" recipes, where it could print out a consolidated ingredient checklist (rather than having to add up each recipe manually to see how many cans are needed for 3 different recipes)

I love Budget Bytes and have been following the website for years. I am not a fan of paying for an app and then using credits to unlock recipes.

Great recipes that tell you the exact amount your spending per portion. It also has a few different diet options, but honestly all of the recipes seem to be a little calorie conscious, oh and the food tastes great! Thank gosh I finally found something that will save me money.

I’ve been a fan of the BudgetBytes website for about 2 years. I’m so glad there’s an app because I’ve been wanting to filter by recipe cost, even though the app has it broken down by serving cost which is fine. I’m having fun organizing my favorite recipes by total per meal in the app cookbooks based off the serving cost provided. It would be nice to be able to search within your Cookbook or favorite recipes or to even search within those sections by an ingredient.
  • All the Goodness of the Website, with the Convenience of an App

This app is great! I used to use the Budget Bytes website a lot back in the 2013~2015 time frame, and loved it. I recently started cooking a lot again and found this app. The app is just as great as the website, but it’s much more convenient, thanks to (1) it being on a mobile device, and (2) the various features such as organizing favorite recipes into your own saved lists, and the ability to “like” a recipe that turned out well. The app is well-designed with no bugs that I’ve found so far. Very much worth the $3...thanks to the app I have saved far more than $3 by avoiding take-out...and my body appreciates the healthy food too! The only thing that makes the website better: You can use a large computer screen to sift through categories of recipes more quickly; in the app you have to scroll through on your small screen. Thank you Beth for making my life a little easier and tastier! Request for developers: *Please* add a function to be able to write personal notes on each recipe! It would be super-convenient to be able to append a note such as “Not spicy enough—add more cayenne next time,” or “Might cook well in the slow cooker.” That way, users can improve the next time they cook a certain recipe. Second request for developers: Add a function to create a “shopping list” from the ingredients of a selected set of recipes and # of servings for each recipe, then sort the list by grocery section (produce, deli, etc.), and finally export the list to Apple Notes, email, etc. People who use it could save 10-20 minutes of time per week!
  • I like the website better than the app

Love the site! Love the setup! Don’t love the app! After finding a recipe I liked by browsing categories, I could not find it again, regardless of the ingredient word combos I entered in the search. I entered the same words in the google search engine and found it instantly. I accidentally clicked on a tutorial and found no easy way out of it (couldn’t see an “x” anywhere). In the end, the app is not more efficient for me. It’s just as easy, if not easier, for me to go online, maintain a bb window, and find budget bytes recipes that way.
  • Please fix search to include “bought” recipes

I like the recipes and the app in general. Having to “buy” additional premium recipes is a little annoying bu really does not cost any real money. What is really annoying is that recipes that you buy do not show up in the search. It that was fixed I would rate it 5 stars.
  • Missing Recipes

I really like the app except sometimes I can’t find recipes on it that I find on the site or view on Instagram. For example, I recently did a search for slow simmered black eyed peas and greens and got nothing. If that problem could be fixed, the app would get five stars.
  • Y’all done messed it up!

Whose bright idea was the credit system to view recipes in a PAID app? Are you mental? You do understand your audience is BUDGET/TIME conscious? I’ll stick with the blog it’s free and way more helpful. Y’all pull your heads out of the oven and I might reinstall.
  • So disappointed...

I don’t understand the ‘credit’ bit... I’ve read in past reviews that you receive 300 credits for buying the app.. I don’t see where/how to receive them.. Not a happy camper.
